Whale Season in Sydney
Each year, thousands of whales migrate along the Sydney coast, and it is a genuine spectacle. Humpbacks and the occasional southern right whale pass by from roughly May to November, heading north in autumn and back south with their calves in spring. Seeing one breach a stone’s throw from the boat is unforgettable.
Dolphins All Year Round
Dolphins are a regular treat no matter the season. Bottlenose and common dolphins often surf the bow wave or work the same bait schools you are fishing, and they never fail to lift a day on the water.
Seabirds and What They Tell You
Keep an eye on the birds, because they are the best fish-finders going. Albatross, shearwaters and gannets gather and dive where the bait is, and a working flock of birds often means predators like tuna or kingfish are underneath. Beautiful to watch, and useful too.
