How it works, what it costs and how to lock in your day on the water.
How do I book a Sydney fishing charter?
Booking is enquiry-based, with no online payment or instant checkout. Send us your preferred date, group size and the type of fishing you are after through our enquiry form, or give us a call, and we will match you to the right boat and get straight back to you to lock it in.
How far in advance should I book?
The earlier the better, especially for weekends, school holidays and peak game fishing season, which book out fast. If you have a set date in mind, send an enquiry as soon as you can. We will always do our best to fit in last-minute trips when we have a boat free.
Is there a deposit, and how do I pay?
There is no deposit needed just to enquire, and no pressure. Once we have confirmed your date and boat, we will walk you through the payment details so everything is sorted before you step aboard.
What is your cancellation and weather policy?
A cancellation fee of 50% applies within 21 days of your charter, and 100% within 14 days. Fishing is weather-dependent, so if it is unsafe to head out we will reschedule your trip for another day or arrange a refund. Your safety on the water always comes first.
Do you price per person or per charter?
Our charters are priced per boat, not per person, so you get the whole vessel and crew for your group, and the cost splits nicely between mates. We cater from 1 to 12 anglers across the two boats.
How many people can come along?
Anywhere from 1 to 12 anglers across our two boats. On Point takes up to 4, and Allie Hunter up to 8 depending on the trip type. See the full fleet and pricing for details on each boat.
On the day
Where to meet us, what to pack and what the day looks like out on the Harbour.
Where do we depart from?
Our charters run out of Sydney Harbour, one of the most spectacular stretches of water in the world to drop a line. We keep pick-ups flexible and can arrange to collect your group and drop you back at almost any wharf or jetty around the Harbour, so the day starts close to wherever suits you. Tell us your preferred spot when you enquire and we will sort out the details.
What time do trips start, and how long are they?
Half-day charters run 6:30am to 1:00pm or 1:00pm to 6:00pm. Full-day game fishing runs 7:00am to 5:00pm. We will confirm your exact meeting time and place when you book.
What should I bring?
Bring sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses and a camera for the photos, and wear comfortable layered clothing with non-slip shoes. Everything you need to fish, rods, reels, bait and tackle, is already on board, so you can travel light.
Can I bring my own food and drinks?
Absolutely. You are welcome to bring your own food and drinks, and alcohol is fine enjoyed responsibly. If you would rather not pack an esky, gourmet catering is available on request, just let us know when you enquire.
Is there a toilet on board?
Yes. Both boats have onboard restroom facilities, so you and your group are comfortable for the full trip.
What if someone gets seasick?
If you are prone to motion sickness, take some seasickness medication before you come aboard, as it works best taken early. Sydney Harbour itself is relatively sheltered, so let us know and we can keep the day closer to calmer water where possible.
The fishing
What you will catch, what is supplied and why no experience is needed.
Do I need any fishing experience?
None at all. George and the crew coach you through every catch, so complete beginners and kids are just as welcome as seasoned anglers. Plenty of our guests land their personal best on their very first trip.
Is fishing gear included?
Yes. Every charter comes with complimentary top-of-the-range Shimano rods, reels, bait and tackle, all included in the price. Just turn up and step aboard.
What fish can I expect to catch?
It depends on the season, the weather and where we fish, but Sydney waters are famous for kingfish, snapper, flathead and tailor closer in, and marlin, yellowfin and bluefin tuna, mahi mahi and even mako sharks out wide. Have a look at the fish species we target to see what is biting.
Can I keep the fish I catch?
Yes, you are welcome to take your catch home to enjoy, within the legal NSW size and bag limits. The crew will help you handle and sort your fish at the end of the trip.
Are the charters suitable for kids and families?
Definitely. A relaxed session on the Harbour is a great day out for families, and the crew love helping younger anglers reel in their first fish. Let us know the ages in your group and we will pitch the day to suit.
Boats & charters
Our two boats, the different charter types and how to pick the right day out.
What boats are in the Wahoo fleet?
We run two purpose-built game boats: On Point, a nimble 28ft vessel for up to 4 anglers, and Allie Hunter, a roomy 34ft boat for up to 8. Both are packed with the latest sounding and GPS technology. See the full fleet and pricing.
Which type of charter is right for me?
It comes down to what you want from the day. For heart-pumping offshore action try game fishing or deep sea fishing; for steady action and a feed go reef fishing; for the fight of light tackle try sport fishing, kingfish or jigging. Not sure? Tell us your crew and experience level and we will recommend the best fit.
Do you run bucks parties and corporate days?
We do. A bucks party charter is a cracking send-off for the groom, and a corporate fishing charter is a memorable way to reward the team or entertain clients. Catering is available on request to round out the day.
Are you licensed, and is it safe?
Yes. Wahoo Fishing Charters is a fully licensed operator, and every boat carries the required safety equipment. Your skipper has spent more than 30 years on Sydney water and will always put safety first.
Do you run charters all year round?
Yes, we fish 7 days a week, year round. There is great fishing in every season, the target species just change with the water temperature. Trips only ever pause when the weather makes it unsafe to head out, in which case we reschedule or refund.
