There is a game fish worth chasing off Sydney almost all year. The target just changes with the water temperature.
Summer to autumn: marlin
From November through to May, blue, black and striped marlin move into the warm current off Sydney. This is prime time to target a billfish, and the run of mahi mahi and yellowfin through the same months makes for some of the most exciting fishing of the year.
Autumn to winter: tuna & sharks
As the water cools, the big yellowfin and southern bluefin tuna arrive, along with mako and other sharks. These are hard, grinding battles on heavy tackle, and a cool-season charter is your best shot at a true heavyweight.
