Meet the yellowtail kingfish
Unmistakable with their blue-green, torpedo-shaped bodies and bright yellow tails, yellowtail kingfish are built for speed and power. Hook one and hang on, they run hard and dirty for the nearest structure.

Jigging the structure
Drop a metal jig down over the reefs, wrecks and washes and work it back with sharp lifts. It is fast, physical and seriously addictive, and one of the deadliest ways to tempt a big kingfish. We supply modern jigging outfits and show you the technique.
Live baiting
Slow-troll or drift a live yellowtail past the structure and wait for the rod to buckle over. Live baiting is the classic big-king method, and the strike, when it comes, is heart-stopping. All the live-bait gear is on board and ready to go.

Kingfish are creatures of structure, and finding them comes down to local knowledge. George has spent more than 30 years learning every reef, wreck, wash and mooring around Sydney where the big kings hold, and exactly how to tempt them.
