What is jig fishing?
Jigging is the fast, physical, heart-pumping end of fishing. You drop a weighted metal jig down deep, then work it back to the surface with sharp lifts and winds until a fish smashes it on the way up. The word jig means dance, and that is exactly what it is, a fast-paced dance between you and some of the hardest-fighting fish in Sydney’s water.

Two styles of jigging
There is more than one way to work a jig, and we run whichever suits the fish and the ground on the day.
Mechanical (speed) jigging
Fast, rhythmic lifts and winds send a slim metal jig darting through the water column. It is the high-energy, arms-burning style that big kingfish and pelagics find impossible to resist. Be warned, it is completely addictive.
Slow-pitch jigging
A finesse style that flutters a jig enticingly over the deep reefs, tempting a huge range of species including snapper, trevally and more. It is less of a workout, deadly effective, and a great way to learn the ropes.
