Boarding at Double Bay Wharf
Double Bay Wharf is at the northern end of Bay Street, right on the waterfront next to Steyne Park. It was rebuilt and reopened in December 2023, replacing the old tidal steps with a fixed jetty and an aluminium gangway, so you now walk on and off level, with accessible parking bays added on Bay Street at the same time.
What makes it a genuinely good meeting point is the walk. It is flat, sheltered and about five minutes from the Bay Street and Knox Street cafes, so a group can gather over breakfast and stroll down together without anyone getting lost or stuck on a hill. Steyne Park beside the wharf gives you lawn, shade and somewhere for early arrivals to wait.
It is also quiet. Double Bay does not get the tourist crush that Watsons Bay does on a weekend, so parking is more predictable and boarding is calmer, while you still get a short run east to the Heads and out to the offshore grounds.

Driving, parking and public transport
One of the more forgiving eastern suburbs wharves, as long as you use a car park rather than trusting the street.
Driving and parking
The public car park at 1 Cross Street is the safest bet and is only a short walk from the wharf. There is metered street parking along Bay Street and around Steyne Park too, including accessible bays added during the wharf upgrade, but the time limits on the street will not stretch to a half-day charter, let alone a full day of game fishing.
Coming from the city or the airport, New South Head Road runs straight into Double Bay and Bay Street drops you at the water. Traffic through Edgecliff is slow in the morning peak, so if you are booked on a 6:30am start leave a little earlier than the map suggests.
Ferry, train and bus
The F7 Double Bay ferry from Circular Quay comes in via Darling Point and lands you at the wharf itself, which is the tidiest option if you are coming from the city or the north shore. It also solves the driver problem when the group intends to have a drink on board.
Buses 324, 325 and 326 run along New South Head Road, a few minutes above the wharf. Edgecliff station on the T4 line is about a ten minute walk downhill, or one stop on the bus, which makes Double Bay one of the easier wharves to reach by train from anywhere on the eastern suburbs line.
Who Double Bay Wharf suits
If your crew is in Double Bay, Darling Point, Edgecliff, Woollahra, Bellevue Hill, Paddington or Rushcutters Bay, this is your closest and calmest option. It is also the wharf we suggest when someone wants the eastern suburbs’ quick access to the Heads but would rather not fight for a park at Watsons Bay on a Saturday.
The flat walk and the step-free gangway make it a good choice for mixed groups, including families with kids and anyone who does not fancy stairs with an armful of gear. Steyne Park next door gives you a natural gathering point, and there is real coffee five minutes away, which matters more than people admit at 6:15 in the morning.
From here you are about fifteen minutes from the Heads, so it works well for game fishing and deep sea fishing where time on the grounds matters, and just as well for kingfish, sport fishing and reef fishing closer in. If parking is your main worry, Rose Bay a few minutes further east has the roomiest car park of the three.

Around fifteen minutes of cruising to Sydney Heads, conditions depending, which makes Double Bay one of the quickest of our pickup points for offshore trips. Harbour fishing starts sooner again, with good ground within a few minutes of leaving the wharf.
Where can we grab breakfast first?
Bay Street and Knox Street, about five minutes' flat walk up from the wharf, are lined with cafes and restaurants, and several open early. Steyne Park right beside the wharf is a good spot for the group to gather with takeaway coffees before boarding.
